Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Congress on Monday felicitated Kangra district Congress president
Anurag Sharma at the party headquarters in Shimla after he was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.
Chief minister
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the occasion was a proud moment for party workers, as a leader who rose from the grassroots reached Parliament. He said the Congress high command asked the state unit to suggest names of four district presidents for the Rajya Sabha election, and senior leader Rahul Gandhi selected Sharma from among them.

Sukhu said BJP leaders made several comments about the election, but the unopposed victory showed there was no dissatisfaction within the Congress.
He said in Parliament, BJP's Anurag Thakur would now face Congress's Anurag Sharma. He said the decision to give a Rajya Sabha ticket to an ordinary worker sent a clear message that grassroots leaders, including those from NSUI and the party organisation, would be considered for future legislative assembly tickets.
Deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri said Sharma now carried the responsibility of raising Himachal's issues in Delhi. Sharma expressed confidence that in the 2027 Assembly elections, the Congress party would form the govt again and win all 15 seats in Kangra district. Cabinet ministers, party leaders and workers attended the event.
