Ambala MC records 54.4% turnout; polling peaceful
Ambala: Ambala City Municipal Corporation elections concluded peacefully on Sunday amid tight security arrangements, recording a voter turnout of 54.4%.According to the State Election Commission dashboard, 1,07,790 voters exercised their franchise across 191 polling booths. The district has 1,98,224 registered voters, including 1,02,654 men, 95,550 women and 20 voters in the "others" category.After polling ended, EVMs and election material were deposited at the strong room set up at OPS Vidya Mandir School in Sector 9, Ambala City. Counting of votes will be held on May 13.district election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar thanked voters for participating in the electoral process and appreciated election staff for ensuring smooth polling.Special security arrangements were made at sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths, while police maintained strict vigil throughout the day.Ambala superintendent of police Ajit Singh Shekhawat visited several polling stations, including Ghel village, Nasirpur, ITI Ambala City, GRSD College and Prem Nagar, and directed personnel to remain alert and prevent crowding around booths.The administration also arranged wheelchairs and volunteers through the Red Cross Society to assist differently-abled voters.
