Chandigarh: On Wednesday, actor Akshay Kumar is likely to be questioned by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police. This is with regard to incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and firing on protesters in 2015.
The SIT originally summoned Akshay in Amritsar but the location was later changed to Chandigarh, reportedly on a request from the actor. The SIT also questioned former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on November 16.
Akshay’s name came up in the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report amid allegations that he had arranged a meeting with Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and Sukhbir at his flat in Mumbai.
It was alleged that the meeting on September 20, 2015, which was attended by former Damdama Sahib jathedar Giani Gurmukh Singh, was held to strike a deal for the release of the dera chief’s film in Punjab. Akshay has denied having met rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
