89% govt school students in Haryana qualify for JEE Advanced examination: Minister
Kurukshetra: Haryana education minister Mahipal Dhanda on Wednesday said flagship initiatives such as ‘Buniyaad' and ‘Super 100' were playing a crucial role in fulfilling the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Nayab Singh Saini by empowering students from govt schools to excel in competitive examinations.Addressing the Yashodeep Samman Samaroh organised at the Haryana Super 100 campus in Barna village in Kurukshetra, the minister highlighted that 89% of eligible students from govt schools in the state had qualified for the prestigious JEE Advanced examination — an achievement he described as unprecedented across both govt and private institutions nationwide.Dhanda also honoured successful students, including 16 candidates who secured more than 99% marks.According to Naveen Mishra, director of the Vikalp Foundation, a total of 235 students qualified for the JEE Advanced. Among them, 35 candidates scored above 98% marks, 57 bagged above 97% marks, and 85 students secured more than 95% marks.Dhanda assured that all infrastructural gaps at the Super 100 campus would be addressed. He said it was a proud day for Haryana and reaffirmed the state's commitment to strengthening public education. The minister noted that earlier, many families could not afford proper coaching for their children for competitive courses, but the Super 100 initiative — conceptualised by Union minister and former chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar — had transformed perceptions of govt schools. He further said the current govt had prioritised reviving the standard of public education, leading to a renewed demand for admissions even in govt schools in districts like Panchkula and Faridabad. Similar improvements, he said, would be implemented across all schools in the state over the next five years.Dhanda also highlighted that the state's ‘Skilled Business Programme' involved 1.23 lakh students and 18,000 teachers working in teams. From among these, the top three teams from each district — 66 teams in total — were selected for a state-level event in Panchkula.Haryana has thus become the first state in India where student teams are becoming self-reliant alongside their studies, with each selected team receiving Rs 1 lakh as encouragement, he added. The minister also underscored the need for innovation among youth, calling upon students to contribute to nation-building in line with the vision of a developed India. He encouraged the adoption of ‘Vocal for Local' in daily life and stressed that today's students represent the future of the country.MSID:: 130609712 413 |
