Yamunanagar/Kurukshetra/Ambala: More than 55,000 pending and pre-litigation cases were settled in the National Lok Adalats held across Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Ambala on Saturday, resulting in settlements and compensation exceeding Rs 17 crore. Courts in all three districts saw a heavy footfall as litigants opted for amicable resolution of disputes.
In Yamunanagar, the Lok Adalat was organised at the Judicial Complex, Yamunanagar–Jagadhri, under the supervision of district and sessions judge Dayanand Bhardwaj. Six benches settled 14,996 cases through mutual consent, awarding compensation of over Rs 3 crore. The benches comprised CJM (Family Court) Amit Sharma, ADSJ Sudeep Goyal, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) Karuna Sharma, Civil Judges (Junior Division) Gauri Narang and Piyush Chaudhary, and Civil Judge (Junior Division), Bilaspur, Sukhdev Singh.
In Kurukshetra, the Lok Adalat was chaired by district and sessions judge Dinesh Kumar Mittal at the District Court Complex. Of the 19,911 matters listed, 16,785 were disposed of on the spot, with settlements worth Rs 9.6 crore. According to DLSA secretary and CJM Neetika Bhardwaj, the resolved cases included 14,970 pre-litigation matters, bank recovery disputes, traffic challans, cheque bounce cases, compoundable criminal cases, and motor accident claims.
The Family Court also settled 74 matrimonial disputes.
In Ambala, seven benches were set up at the district court and the Naraingarh sub-divisional court. Judicial officers included ADSJ Amit Sharma, ADSJ and Principal Judge (Family Court) Abhilasha Sapra Kohli, CJM Geetanjali Goyal, railway court judge Sachin Kumar, Civil Judges Chinar Baghla and Pawandeep Kaur, and additional civil judge Chetesh Gupta. A total of 23,536 cases were resolved, covering 121 matrimonial disputes, 997 criminal cases, 383 civil matters, 925 bank recovery disputes and 624 cheque bounce cases, with compensation of over Rs 5 crore ordered.
