4 held with fake currency worth Rs 5.5 lakh in Malerkotla

Patiala: The counter-intelligence (CI) wing of Patiala police on Monday busted a fake currency racket in Malerkotla and arrested four persons with counterfeit notes worth Rs 5.5 lakh, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.Police recovered all the fake Indian currency notes in Rs 500 denomination.The accused were identified as Nazar Khan of Jhunir village in Malerkotla, Raj Mohammad of Dhuri in Sangrur, Mukhtiyar Singh alias Gurjit Singh of Malikpur village in Haryana's Jind district, and Asif Ali of Malerkotla.The DGP said preliminary investigation revealed that Raj Mohammad was already facing a case under the NDPS Act. Police are probing the network's forward and backward linkages, he added.AIG CI Patiala Simrat Kaur said the CI unit first arrested Nazar Khan and Raj Mohammad and recovered fake currency worth Rs 4 lakh from them. During further investigation, police arrested the two other accused and recovered another ₹1.5 lakh in counterfeit notes.Police registered a case under Sections 179 and 180 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Amargarh police station in Malerkotla.
