Three jailed for making blue film

A fast track court on Monday punished three youths with seven years rigorous imprisonment for making a blue film showing a 22-year old girl in compromising positions and selling it in the market. The incident had occurred in 2008. 22-year-old journalism student Asima Mohanty had committed suicide in Cuttack after her boyfriend Astaranga Sahoo, an engineering student, had sold the CD in the market.

CUTTACK: A fast track court on Monday punished three youths with seven years rigorous imprisonment for making a blue film showing a 22-year old girl in compromising positions and selling it in the market. Pronouncing the verdict Judge Biranchi Narayan Mishra convicted the main accused Pina alias Astarang Sahoo (27) and two others Amaresh Sahoo(28) and Manas Sahoo(35) under section 306 (abetment for suicide), section 34 (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance with common intention), section 500(punishment for defamation) of Indian Penal Code and section 6 of Indecent Representation of Women Act and punished them with seven years of rigorous imprisonment. A fine of 10,000 was also imposed on the trio. Quoting the court's observation prosecution counsel Ajay Patnaik said, "Offences of such nature are increasing in the society. To put a check on such incidents the accused was punished with rigorous imprisonment of seven years."
The main accused Astarang was also booked under section 417 of IPC (punishment for cheating). He had promised marriage to the girl and had developed an intimate relationship with her. The other accused, Manas and Amaresh were instrumental in filming the obscene scenes and circulating it in the market. Though one more accused Subrat Pradhan was also arrested in the case, he was acquitted by the court due to lack of proper evidences."
