Rourkela: The railways suspended
RPF inspector Kamalesh Samadar from his job on Saturday night. Samadar is accused of leading an
extortion racket forcing vendors at Rourkela railway station to pay regular bribes, and was found absconding during a CBI raid on Saturday.
While the CBI arrested one of his key agents on Friday while he was allegedly collecting money from vendors at the station, the prime accused and an accomplice absconded. Search operations are on to nab the duo.
Sources said some vendors at Rourkela railway station who sell food items, tea and drinking water bottles without licence complained to the CBI and alleged that Rourkela RPF inspector Samadar of running a large-scale extortion network.
A four-member CBI team laid simultaneous raids targeting Samadar in Rourkela late on Friday night. The complainants alleged that they were being forced to pay regular bribes to continue their business activities on railway premises. The raids were conducted at Samadar’s official govt quarters near Chhota Park in the Railway Colony, his office near the railway station, and the residence of a supplier-cum-broker allegedly associated with the extortion network.
