Koraput police execute 189 pending non-bailable warrants in special drive
Koraput: The district police recently executed 189 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) pending under different police station limits in Jeypore police subdivision during a special drive.
The drive, led by SDPO (Jeypore) Archita Mittal, has yielded significant results in tracing absconders and habitual offenders involved in serious crimes across the five police stations under the subdivision.
According to official data, 538 NBWs were pending in the subdivision before the launch of the operation. Following intensive raids and coordinated action by police teams, the number has now come down to 349. Police said nearly 35% of the total pending NBWs has been disposed of so far, while the drive is continuing.
Explaining the objective behind the operation, Mittal said the focus was on strengthening law enforcement and bringing long-pending offenders to justice. “We have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend absconders against whom NBWs were pending for a long time. Dedicated teams have been formed and regular raids are being carried out across different police station areas,” she added.
Police sources said several habitual offenders involved in serious crimes were apprehended during the drive. Among them are Badal Nag, allegedly involved in theft, NDPS, snatching and Arms Act cases; Padman Harijan, wanted in dacoity, kidnapping and Arms Act cases; and Surendra Khoda alias Lucky.
Many habitual offenders involved in theft, snatching, dacoity and NDPS-related offences have been apprehended and forwarded to the court, the SDPO added.
The police administration stated that the special drive would continue in the coming days to ensure execution of all pending warrants and further strengthen law and order in the region. “We have adopted zero tolerance towards crime in the region and anyone taking the law into their hands will not be spared. The drive against absconders and habitual offenders will continue with equal intensity and our night patrolling has been intensified,” Mittal added.
