45-year-old man held for raping minor, making her pregnant in Jajpur district

Kendrapada: A 45-year-old man in Jajpur district was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl multiple times and making her pregnant. The survivor was found to be five-month pregnant due to the repeated sexual assaults.On Saturday, the survivor’s mother lodged an FIR against the accused, a neighbour, alleging that he had raped her daughter for the past five months, resulting in her pregnancy. Acting on the FIR, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused, said investigating officer Rakesh Tripathy.The survivor was examined by doctors of the district headquarters hospital in Jajpur, during which it was revealed that she was five months pregnant. The accused was produced in a Jajpur court on Sunday and his bail application was rejected and remanded in judicial custody.The minor was produced in court and her statement was recorded. The survivor was shifted to a govt managed short stay home at Jajpur, the police officer said.
