BHOPAL: The Congress on Sunday questioned why a minister facing possible prosecution for remarks against Indian Army officer Sofiya Qureshi was given the honour of hoisting the national flag on Republic Day by the Madhya Pradesh government in his hometown Khandwa.
Senior Congress leader K K Mishra said that whatever tribal welfare minister Vijay Shah said about Sofiya Qureshi, the face of Indian Army during ‘Operation Sindoor', may not have hurt the BJP but the judges of MP high court were hurt. A division bench of the court had ordered that an FIR be registered against the minister under sections 152, 196 (1) (B) AND 197 (1) (C) within 24 hours after taking suo motu cognizance of his comments at a public meeting near Mhow. The apex court constituted a SIT to further investigate the matter and recently, a supreme court bench headed by the chief justice expressed displeasure over delay in granting sanction to lodge an FIR against the minister. The court further asked the state government to decide on lodging an FIR against the minister in 2 weeks time.
