BHOPAL: A 17-year-old girl was critically injured after a stalker allegedly attacked her with an axe and tried to hang her from a terrace in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district on Friday.The girl suffered severe head injuries and was referred to Gwalior after initial treatment at Shivpuri Medical College. Doctors said she received over 60 stitches.The incident took place in a village under the jurisdiction of Khod police outpost. Police identified the main accused as Dharmendra Parihar, 22.According to police and local residents, tension had been brewing between the two families due to an old rivalry.Villagers alleged that Dharmendra was obsessed with the minor and had stopped her on a road around 15 days ago, triggering a dispute between the families.A village panchayat was later held and a compromise was reportedly reached.Police said the girl was alone at home on Friday morning when the accused allegedly entered the house and attacked her with an axe.She reportedly ran to the terrace to escape, but he followed her.The victim’s family alleged that the accused tied a noose around her neck and hung her from the terrace before throwing her to the ground and fleeing.The attack sparked outrage in the village. Family members and locals blocked the KhodSirsod road for nearly two hours, demanding immediate arrests and action against the accused.Police said five people have been booked in the case. Dharmendra Parihar and his father, Ajab Singh Parihar, have been rounded up for questioning.
