Bhopal: A digital arrest bid for financial gain was foiled in Bhopal as police stated on Sunday a man was freed from a 6-hour "digital arrest." On March 7, fraudsters kept the victim under digital arrest, but due to action the financial loss was prevented.
The caller posed as an inspector from ATS Pune and carried out the digital arrest through a video call.
Police stated a government employee working at Vindhyachal Bhavan, Bhopal, came to the police station with his wife and daughter on March 7. He informed the police that on WhatsApp, a person claiming to be an Inspector from ATS Pune was accusing him of using his mobile phone for terrorist activities and had placed him under "digital arrest" through a video call.
Based on the complainant's information, a policeman spoke to the fraudster on the video call. Initially, the fraudster threatened the policeman, saying he would get his uniform removed within two minutes. However, upon seeing the police's strictness, the scammer disconnected the call and did not contact the complainant again.
Police said the security settings were made on the complainant's phone and due to the alertness, the complainant was saved from financial fraud.
