CM Yadav hails PMGSY as “lifeline” of rural India
Bhopal: Chief minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday said a single welfare scheme can change the destiny of rural India if backed by strong political will, citing the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) as a model that transformed connectivity and daily life in villages across the country.
Addressing the launch programme of PMGSY Phase-IV and works under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) at Bhairunda in Sehore district, Yadav said roads built under PMGSY have become the “lifeline” of rural India by connecting villages, hamlets and remote habitations with permanent all-weather roads.
Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also present at the event.
Yadav said PMGSY has played a key role in implementing rural development and welfare schemes effectively on the ground by improving accessibility in remote areas. He termed the completion of 25 years of PMGSY a “historic milestone” and said the silver jubilee of the scheme marks the beginning of a new phase of rural transformation.
The chief minister said the nationwide rollout of PMGSY-IV and PM JANMAN would further strengthen road infrastructure in rural and tribal regions and improve connectivity in difficult areas. A short film highlighting the 25-year journey and achievements of PMGSY was screened during the programme.
Highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s performance, Yadav said the state ranks first in the country in the implementation of PMGSY.
During the event, Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over approval letters related to PMGSY-IV and PM JANMAN to the chief minister. He also symbolically allocated Rs 830 crore to Madhya Pradesh under PMGSY for the financial year 2026-27.
A total allocation of Rs 18,907 crore for PMGSY-related works for 2026-27 was digitally released for states and Union Territories (UTs) across the country, of which Madhya Pradesh received Rs 830 crore.
