Bhopal: The slab of an under-construction building housing a medical store near AIIMS suddenly collapsed on Friday, injuring around eight people standing below. Five of the injured, reported to be in serious condition, were admitted to AIIMS.
The incident took place just a short distance from the hospital. At the time, attendants of patients visiting AIIMS came to the medical store to purchase medicines and were injured.
According to initial information, the building where the incident occurred is an old structure. A medical store was operational on the ground floor, while construction work for three additional floors was underway above it.
Eyewitnesses stated that the slab was protruding outwards and suddenly collapsed onto a shed below.
The heavy debris caused the shed to cave in completely, leading to the injuries.
Eyewitnesses said that soon after the collapse, a crowd gathered at the spot.
Bag Sewania SHO Amit Soni said that police are probing the incident and action will be taken if any negligence is found against the building owner or others involved.
Among the injured, 23-year-old Nandini is reported to be seriously injured. She suffered a deep leg injury after an iron angle pierced her limb and also suffered a fracture and serious head injuries.
She is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS.
Hospital authorities confirmed that out of the eight injured, three were discharged after primary treatment.
19-year-old girl & 61 year-old man among injured
Among the other injured, a 19-year-old girl, Tanushree, suffered injuries to her head and hand. 56-year-old Manoj Kumar from Amrai has injuries across the body.
An iron angle fell on a man who hails from Gwalior, identified as Abhay, and his shoulder and chest were injured. Somprakash, a 61-year-old man from Umaria suffered internal injuries.
