Youth fed 10 kg bananas in Bengaluru to recover swallowed key
Bengaluru: In a bizarre turn of events that left even seasoned police personnel stunned, a missing person case in Nelamangala took an unusual twist when a youngster detained by police allegedly swallowed a lock-up key—only for it to be "recovered" later with unusual means—feeding him kilograms of bananas! The scatological drama unfolded at Madanayakanahalli police station on Sunday, after the youth, identified as Ramu, a native of Ballari currently living in Bengaluru, was traced using mobile tower location data in connection with a complaint pertaining to a missing 17-year-old girl. Fearing action under the stringent Pocso Act, Ramu reportedly panicked inside the police station and swallowed a lock-up key in an alleged suicide attempt.Cops at the station rushed him to a private hospital, where doctors chose a non-invasive approach over surgery to recover the key and save the patient. What followed was an unusual course of treatment—Ramu was reportedly fed nearly 10 kg of bananas over three days to aid the natural passage of the metallic object through his digestive system.Under constant medical supervision and police watch, the unconventional method yielded the desired result when the key was successfully retrieved through natural means. While a case was registered against the youth for his alleged suicide attempt when he was brought back to the police station on Tuesday, the investigation into the missing minor's case continues, officers said Wednesday.
