"The giraffe stopped eating on May 3. A team of veterinarians closely monitored her condition and provided intensive treatment, but she failed to respond and died around 11am Thursday," an official said.A postmortem conducted by veterinary experts revealed Shivani died due to caecal torsion, a serious condition involving twisting of a portion of the intestine that causes acute abdominal distress. Officials said visceral samples have been collected and sent to Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals laboratory in Hebbal for analysis.Shivani was brought to Bannerughatta from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in 2024 after months of negotiations, at a time when the park was struggling to find a companion for its lone giraffe, Gauri.Born in 2022 to giraffes Bharat and Babli at Mysuru zoo, Shivani was transported to Bannerughatta in a specially designed cage mounted on a multi-axle truck under special escort arrangements.
