BANGALORE: Krishnappa Chinnappa, 55, also known as 'Bar' Krishnappa as he owns a chain of bar and restaurants, was elected Bommanahalli city municipal council president in 2002.
He's from Naganathapura near Electronics City and the son of a landlord. He constructed residential and commercial buildings on large tracts of land and rented them out.
Krishnappa's Land Rover involved in Monday's accident was among the 498 imported cars about which the Lokayukta had sought clarification on payment of road tax and other import duties.
He lives on Hosa Road in Chennakeshavanagar and operates out of Renuka Bar, located in one of his buildings. He built up a formidable circle of friends but given his abrasive ways, he ended up with more foes than friends. He was a member of the
Congress and
BJP at various points of time.
In 2007, when his elder daughter-in-law committed suicide, her relatives attacked Krishnappa's house and set it on fire. A dowry harassment case was filed against Krishnappa, his elder son Vijayakumar and other family members. A year later, Vijayakumar committed suicide.
When Krishnappa's wife left him, it proved to be one more in the series of tragic events in his family, and Krishnappa allegedly took refuge in liquor. His reckless ways rendered him unpopular in the area. Neighbours said Krishnappa was involved in many road rage incidents. He fought regularly with other motorists over trivial issues.
One of Krishnappa's daughters is married and stays in HSR Layout.
