Karnataka Hijab Row Updates: Classes 9, 10 to reopen from Monday, decision on seniors and colleges later

The three-judge bench of the Karnataka high court has begun hearing the petitions questioning the ban on wearing of 'hijabs' (headscarves) by students in colleges. Chief Justice of HC Ritu Raj Awasthi has constituted a full bench comprising himself, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice Jaibunnisa M Khazi in view of the urgency to hear the matter. Meanwhile, the Supreme court on Thursday declined to urgently list a plea seeking transfer of the petitions from the high court.

Following the high court's interim order directing students not to wear hijab or saffron shawls in educational institutions till it gives a final verdict on the hijab controversy, the state government on Thursday announced the opening of high schools from Monday. However the PU and degree colleges will remain shut till the next order from the government.
