Couple held for stealing from employer’s house in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A married couple who worked as car driver and domestic help at a businessman's house have been arrested by CK Achukattu police for allegedly stealing over 275 grams of gold ornaments, more than 800 grams of silver ornaments, and Rs 25 lakh in cash from their employer's house.Police said Manikanta, 26, and his wife, Aishwarya, 21, had been working in the house of businessman and builder G Mallikarjun, a resident of Kathriguppe in Banashankari, for the past five months. Manikanta and his family, including his mother, stayed in an outhouse on Mallikarjun's property. Manikanta's wife and mother both worked as domestic helps and had access to all the rooms in Mallikarjun's house. Aishwarya observed that the family kept gold ornaments and cash in a bedroom locker, and the key was kept in the adjacent cupboard.Mallikarjun had kept Rs 25 lakh in the locker in March. When he checked the locker on April 12, he found the cash missing. The family further noticed that gold ornaments, including necklaces, chains, earrings, and a diamond necklace, were missing.Mallikarjun suspected the domestic helps and his car driver. Police arrested the couple from the outhouse on April 20. Upon interrogation, they confessed to the theft, police said.Manikanta told police that a part of the stolen cash and ornaments was kept in the outhouse. A few gold and silver ornaments were given to Manikanta's sister, some cash given to his friend, and some gold ornaments pledged at a jewellery shop. Police said it was the first offence of the couple and they have been remanded to judicial custody.
