Woman convicted for blinding hubby in acid attack
Bareilly: A fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district on Tuesday convicted a 28-year-old woman for throwing acid on her husband that left him permanently blind.Additional district judge (ADJ) found the accused, Kahkashan, a resident of Bijnor, guilty of the crime. Following the verdict, the court cancelled her bail and sent her into judicial custody, according to special public prosecutor Narendra Kumar Yadav. The court is scheduled to pronounce the quantum of sentence on June 1.The prosecution stated that the horrific incident occurred in the early hours of March 7, 2025, during a bitter domestic dispute. Kahkashan allegedly poured acid on the face of her husband, Muzaffar Ali (30), while he was asleep at their home in Sambhal.“The chemical attack left Muzaffar with severe, disfiguring burns across his face and caused complete loss of vision in both eyes. His stomach, hands, and legs were also severely burnt. Even now, he has not fully recovered from his injuries,” SPP Yadav told TOI.An FIR was lodged at Kotwali police station 13 days after the attack. According to the prosecution, the motive behind the crime stemmed from marital discord.
Yadav alleged that the woman used to converse with multiple men, to which her husband strongly objected, prompting her to attempt to kill him.During the trial, Muzaffar testified that a suspicious substance had been mixed into his food just before the attack. He also raised suspicions regarding the involvement of some of his wife’s relatives. The court delivered its guilty verdict against Kahkashan based on concrete physical evidence, witness testimonies and arguments presented by the prosecution. The victim’s family and local residents are now awaiting the final sentencing. Muzaffar has now expressed a sense of relief after the court hearing.
