Prayagraj: A joint team from Jethwara, SWAT and the surveillance team of Pratapgarh police on Thursday arrested the three absconding accused in the case of holding a Madhya Pradesh-based man captive for 10 years and his religious conversion.
Police had announced a Rs 25,000 cash reward each for Nizamuddin alias Nizam (33), Safiujjama alias Kalloo (65) and Naimuddin alias Naeem (60), all residents of Kutilia village, on Wednesday. They were booked under sections of BNS and Section 3/5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act 2021.
"The arrest was made near Tantrik crossing when they were planning to leave the town," said an official, adding that Santosh Shukla, 40, the MP man allegedly renamed as Sher Khan after forced conversion, was kept hostage by Badrul Jama at his home in Pratapgarh for past 12 years. Zama was arrested on Monday.
After three failed attempts, Shukla escaped on Sunday and reached Derwa police outpost. He had met Zama and his accomplices in Chhattisgarh in 2014. tnn
