Prayagraj: As many as 260 women associated with different self-help groups (SHGS) are shaping over 1 lakh designer diyas (earthen lamps) made of cow dung, which will illuminate Sangam Nose and seven ghats on the occasion of Dev Deepawali on Nov 5.
Dev Deepawali celebrations will be held at the Sangam's Qila Ghat, Ganga's Dashashwamedh Ghat, Yamuna's Kali Ghat, and Balua Ghat. Along with illuminating the ghats with diyas, several cultural programmes will also be organised. The tourism department will also hold a laser show at Yamuna's Kali Ghat. Sand art will be created on the sands of the Sangam. Beautiful selfie points will also be created at all locations.
Pratibha Srivastava, project officer of the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA - Prayagraj), said, "This time, the ghats of the Sangam will be illuminated with the light of diyas made from cow dung by women of self-help groups during Dev Deepawali." She said over 260 women from self-help groups have been given this responsibility.
Interestingly, all the seven permanent ghats constructed by the Yogi Adityanath govt during the Maha Kumbh 2025 will witness a grand celebration this Dev Deepawali.
This time, due to the prolonged presence of floodwaters in both the rivers, the area of the Sangam is still full of mud. Considering this, apart from Sangam Nose, the permanent ghats of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Sangam have been chosen for the Dev Deepawali celebrations. Preparations are underway under the leadership of Chief Development Officer (Prayagraj) Harshika Singh.
