E-vehicle charging points to come up at 5 major rly stns
Prayagraj: In a major push towards eco-friendly infrastructure and improved passenger amenities, North Central Railway (NCR) has initiated the process to set up electric vehicle charging stations at major railway stations across its jurisdiction. NCR has floated tenders for setting up charging points at five stations in the first phase, with e-auction scheduled for May 26.After awarding the work, the facilities are expected to become operational within six months.Under the initial phase, EV charging stations will be set up at Prayagraj Chheoki, Naini, Chunar, Tundla and Mirzapur railway stations. A previous tender issued for Aligarh station was cancelled and will now be reissued afresh. According to railway officials, space at the stations will be provided by the Railways, while the selected agency will develop the area and install charging infrastructure for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.The initiative is aimed at encouraging the growing use of electric vehicles. Railway authorities believe stations can emerge as important charging hubs in the future, especially for commuters who park their vehicles at stations before travelling to offices or other destinations.
Other visitors using railway parking facilities will also be able to avail themselves of the charging service. To enhance convenience, a waiting area will also be developed alongside the charging stations. The facility will allow vehicle owners to relax while their vehicles are charging and may also be developed into a cafeteria space.NCR CPRO, Shashikant Tripathi said the project would contribute significantly towards environmental protection by promoting electric mobility.Meanwhile, the railway administration has also planned a state-of-the-art mechanised laundry at the CNB Coaching Depot in Prayagraj division. An e-tender worth around Rs 70.71 crore has been floated for the project. The facility will handle machine-based washing of bedsheets, blankets, pillow covers and towels used in trains, ensuring passengers receive cleaner and better-quality linen services.
