Gujarat University rejects all applications for chief accountant post

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University's recruitment drive for around 167 non-teaching posts has failed to fill the long-vacant post of chief accountant, as none of the applicants were found eligible after scrutiny.University sources said nine candidates had applied for the chief accountant post, but all were rejected during the scrutiny process for various reasons.
With no candidate qualifying, the university could not proceed with the appointment. The post of chief accountant has remained vacant at Gujarat University for more than 15 years. During this period, the university has handled financial administration by giving additional charge to different officials on a temporary basis. Over the tenures of the last three vice-chancellors, the responsibility was assigned either to GU staff members or to other officials. In the past, the university had also approached the state govt to appoint an officer to the post. A former vice-chancellor had given the charge of chief accountant to an employee of EMRC for more than three years. At present, the responsibility is being handled by a retired ONGC officer. The university had also invited applications for other key posts, including director of physical education, librarian, assistant registrar, university engineer and press manager. However, with no eligible candidate available for the chief accountant post, the university will continue to manage its financial operations through an in-charge arrangement.
