Ahmedabad: Gujarat players excelled for India at the Asian PickleBall Open held in Phuket recently. India won 20 gold medals, six silver and 14 bronze medals at the event.
Twelve players from Gujarat formed the India squad and they won six gold, two silver and seven bronze medals.
Ahmedabad's Suryaveer SIngh Bhullar and his partner Ashwini from Jaipur won the gold in the men's doubles (50 plus category).
Shail Shah and Deep Patel won the gold in men’s doubles (19+ advance). Himansh Mehta won the silver in the event.
Gujarat’s Purvansh Patel won the gold in boys’ singles (under 18). The siver and bronze in the category went to Gujarat’s Veer Shah and Dev Shah respectively. Purvansh won another gold in boys’ singles (under 14). Other medal winners from Gujarat in team events include Vishal Patel (gold), Dhiren Patel, Shail Shah, Deep Patel, Tirth Patel, Himansh Mehta and Rakshika Ravi (all bronze).
Pickleball is a racket/paddle sport. Elements of other racket games such as tennis, ping pong and badminton have been blended in to create this new game. The sport is played across 16 states in India and there are about 3000 'Picklers' in the country currently.
Coaching camp at Loyola to begin on May 2: An open-for-all coaching camp for various sports like cricket, football, swimming, basketball, skating,TT, tennis, karate and hockey will be held at the St. Xavier’s Loyola Hall. The camp will run from May 2-31.
Mojidra win rapid chess tourney: Ahmedabad’s Dharmendra Mojidra won the 10th MGA rapid chess played over nine rounds in Vadodara recently. Abhiraj Kanitkar was the runner-up while Pankaj Gandhi finished third in the tournament organized by the Baroda Chess Academy.
