AHMEDABAD: Lavjibhai and Surekha Chaudhary's story seems to follow the script of a Manmohan Desai potboiler. Unfortunately, their story has ended in despair with Gujarat high court refusing to restore their child's custody to them because the child was already given in adoption by the orphanage where they had left him.
In the film 'Mard', a man writes that word in blood on his child's chest giving him an identity that results in reunion.
Lavjibhai and Surekha wrote the name of their two-month-old boy on his forehead and hand and hung a letter by a thread around his neck. The letter contained the baby's name. The couple then placed the baby in a cradle and left him outside an orphanage in Palanpur in 2014.
The couple had decided to leave their native Bhadarpura village following a stiff opposition from their families to their marriage. They preferred to leave the child at the orphanage thinking that they would be able to claim him when the hostility ended. The couple had to initiate five litigations, including two habeas corpus petitions to remain together. They settled in Kalol and decided to get their son back and contacted the orphanage.
