Gujarat board Class 12 results: At 84.33%, science stream pass rate at 11-year high

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has hit a historic milestone, with the Class 12 science stream recording its highest pass rate in 11 years at 84.33%. While the science stream reached a decade-plus peak, the general stream also maintained momentum with its second-best performance ever, fuelled by a massive surge in the number of students securing top-tier A-1 grades.In the science stream, the pass percentage for regular students stood at 84.33% with 93,678 regular candidates clearing the exams, while the overall result was 80.69%.Morbi district emerged as the academic frontrunner with a pass rate of 94.85%, while Dahod sat at the other end of the spectrum at 57.44%. Local variation was equally stark among centres. Kumbhariya celebrated a high of 98.62% while Limdi recorded the state's lowest at 42.98%. In total, 1,18,256 students appeared for the science exams out of nearly 1.19 lakh registrations. In the general stream, performance remained robust at 92.71% for regular students. Although this represents a marginal dip of 0.36% compared to last year's record high of 93.07%, the volume of success was significant, with 4,03,362 out of 4,36,572 regular candidates passing. Dang district posted the highest results at 97.88%, while Ahmedabad city registered the lowest at 87.10%. Notably, four centres — Tadava, Kotda, Kangvai, and Prashnavada — achieved a perfect 100% success rate.The exams were held across Feb and March, but the announcement of results was delayed due to the NEET exam which concluded on Sunday. State education minister Pradyuman Vaja declared the scores on Monday, revealing a substantial leap in "quality" results. The number of students achieving an A-1 grade jumped from 6,491 last year to 9,022 this year. This excellence was split across streams, with science seeing 1,576 A-1 grades (up by 745) and general recording 7,446 (up by 1,786).Gender metrics continued to favour female students, who outperformed their male counterparts in both categories. In science, girls secured an 84.65% pass rate against 84.04% for boys. The gap widened significantly in the general stream, where girls achieved a 95.41% success rate, leaving the boys behind at 90.10%.
