Census drive gains pace across Ahmedabad’s 48 wards
Ahmedabad: Ahead of the Census 2027, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has accelerated preparations for the first phase of enumeration work, with large-scale training and deployment of census staff already underway across the city.
According to a Gujarat govt notification issued on May 5, the first phase of the census — involving house listing and building enumeration — will be carried out from June 1 to 30. The month-long exercise is expected to cover every household and structure within Ahmedabad city limits.
To execute the operation, the AMC’s City Census Department has appointed nearly 12,000 enumerators and 2,000 supervisors across city’s 48 wards. Officials said personnel have been drawn from central and state govt offices, semi-govt institutions, schools and colleges located in Ahmedabad.
All enumerators and supervisors have been placed under designated charge officers in each ward. Before field operations begin, the civic body has launched an extensive training drive to familiarise staff with census procedures, documentation and data collection protocols.
Training sessions are currently being conducted at schools and community halls across all 48 wards. AMC officials said the entire training process is expected to conclude by May 21. So far, around 7,500 personnel have already undergone training.
AMC officials said that employees assigned census duties would be required to attend training sessions and comply with deployment orders. Any absence from training or negligence in census work could invite disciplinary proceedings, including FIRs under Section 11 of the Census Act.
