Bodakdev firing over domestic dispute: Duo held in Ujjain after two-month hunt
Ahmedabad: Two men wanted in connection with a firing incident in Bodakdev in Sep were arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh.The accused, Maulik Thakkar and his brother Jitendra Thakkar, had spent weeks moving between dharamshalas and hotels to evade police. They were picked up from outside Harsiddhi Temple near Mahakal Temple in Ujjain on Monday, nearly two months after they allegedly opened fire on their brother-in-law.According to police, the firing took place on Sep 27 following a domestic dispute between Maulik and his wife, Sheetal. Police said Sheetal had called her brother, Sudhir alias Gopal Thakkar, to take her away from the couple's home near Shilaj Circle. When Sudhir arrived around 8.30pm in a car with his father and brother-in-law, Maulik allegedly confronted them.As per the FIR filed with Bodakdev police, Maulik used his revolver to fire one round at the car and two more at Sudhir. One bullet struck Sudhir on the right side of his abdomen. A case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered at Bodakdev police station.Both accused fled immediately after the incident. The crime branch formed multiple teams and began tracking them using human intelligence and technical surveillance.
Investigators learned that the duo had taken shelter in Ujjain. A team was rushed there, and, with help from local temple staff who recognised them from photos, the brothers were nabbed during their routine temple visits.Police said the accused moved between a dharamshala in Ujjain and a hotel in Mumbai before returning to Ujjain. During the arrest, officers recovered a revolver, 10 live cartridges, two empty shells and two mobile phones from Maulik. Both men have been brought back to Ahmedabad for further investigation.
