Ahmedabad: A 75-year-old Vastrapur resident died of injuries four days after he was allegedly knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near Vastrapur Lake, with the driver fleeing without stopping to help, police said.
The deceased, Harivadan Trivedi, suffered severe head injuries in the accident that occurred on the morning of May 27. His son, Bhargav Trivedi (50), filed a complaint with A-Division traffic police seeking action against the unknown driver.
According to the FIR, Harivadan lived at Sundarvan Bungalows in Vastrapur with his wife. On May 27, he left home on his Activa scooter to withdraw cash from an ATM near Vastrapur Lake.
Police said that after withdrawing money, Harivadan was returning home around 8.45am when an unidentified vehicle allegedly struck his scooter somewhere on the stretch between Kalupur Bank and Sundarvan Bungalows. Despite injuries to his head, left eye and leg, he managed to reach home. Family members were unaware of the accident at the time.
Later in the day, around 11.30am, he reportedly lost consciousness at home.
His daughter informed his son, after which he was rushed to Zydus Hospital in an ambulance.
Doctors found that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage. He underwent surgery on May 28 and remained under intensive care. However, despite treatment, he died at 12.32am on Sunday.
In his complaint, Bhargav said the vehicle involved remains unidentified as his father could not share any details before losing consciousness.
Traffic police registered a case against the unknown driver for causing death by negligent driving and fleeing the scene. Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from the Vastrapur Lake area and nearby roads to identify the vehicle responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.
