Ahmedabad: Fuel gets costlier, diesel price up by 93 paise
Ahmedabad: Petrol and diesel rates were raised once again on Monday, with prices going up by nearly 90 paise per litre across Gujarat, deepening inflation worries among consumers and transporters already burdened by rising operating expenses.
According to petroleum dealers, petrol prices in Ahmedabad went up by 87 paise per litre, from Rs 97.51 to Rs 98.38. Diesel rates increased by 93 paise per litre, from Rs 93.26 to Rs 94.19. The latest hike comes just days after fuel prices were raised by Rs 3 per litre on Friday amid firming global crude oil prices linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict and supply concerns around the Strait of Hormuz.
This is the second increase in fuel prices within five days, pointing to continued pressure on domestic fuel markets.
Retail fuel rates had largely remained stable since April 2022, except for a one-time reduction of Rs 2 per litre in March 2024 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Public sector oil marketing companies — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited — had paused daily fuel price revisions in 2022 to shield consumers from global crude price volatility following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
