After Gir-Somnath, Gujarat to set up STATCOMs at 7 more places
Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Friday that after setting up a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) at Gir-Somnath, STATCOMs will be set up at seven more places in the state. STATCOM improves voltage stability, reduces stress on transmission infrastructure, lowers transmission losses, and improves power quality.An official statement said that Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) became India’s first state-run transmission utility to use STATCOM technology. It was commissioned in March 2019, at the 220kV Timbdi substation in Gir-Somnath district.Govt said that six of the proposed seven STATCOMs will be set up at existing 220kV substations and one will be deployed at the upcoming 400kV Dholera-2 substation.
