Mathura man gets life term for killing Delhi woman he befriended on FB
Agra: A Mathura court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a 24-year-old woman from Delhi, whom he had befriended on Facebook, after she repeatedly pressured him to marry her. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 31,000 on the convict, additional district govt counsel (ADGC) KK Pathak said.The incident took place on July 26, 2023, when Johra Khatun, a resident of Jogabai Extension in Jamia, New Delhi, was attacked near Cantt Kali Temple under the Sadar police station area in Mathura. She was taken to the district hospital by police and later referred to SN Medical College, Agra, due to her critical condition.Before her death, the victim lodged an FIR at Sadar police station, naming Saddam Hussain. 30, as the accused.In her complaint, she stated that the accused, with whom she was in a relationship, had invited her to Mathura on the pretext of medical treatment. She alleged that he took her to Syed Mazar and stabbed her multiple times, causing grievous injuries. Hearing her screams, passersby gathered at the spot and informed the police.
Khatun, daughter of a vegetable vendor, succumbed to her injuries on July 30, 2023, while undergoing treatment in Agra. Police registered a case under IPC section 302 (murder) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act. The accused was arrested and sent to jail. Weeks later, a chargesheet was filed in court. Saddam, who used to work at his father's tailoring shop, was later granted bail during the trial.After completion of the trial, the court of additional sessions judge Arvind Kumar Yadav on Tuesday found the accused guilty. In case of default of fine payment, the accused will have to undergo an additional two years of imprisonment, the ADGC said.
