LUCKNOW: Less than a week after a 35-year-old Mumbai woman was found dead in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, police on Monday arrested her former husband and his wife for her murder.
The victim, Priya Shetty, met Gorakhpur resident Vijay Kumar Sahni (35) when he was residing in Mumbai’s Kandivali area and working as life insurance agent. In 2012, the duo entered a live-in relationship and got married within a year, after Priya realised she was pregnant. In 2013, she gave birth to son.

Vijay eventually left the house and filed for divorce. The proceedings, however, got stalled midway as Priya had already vacated address to which divorce notice was sent.
Vijay returned to his village in 2014. He married Sandhya (32) a year later.
Through social media, Vijay discovered their son was now nine and Priya had been struggling financially. He began sending money to Priya, who gradually began inviting him to her house. Vijay’s repeated absences made Sandhya suspicious.
Unable to deceive her anymore, Vijay began discussing a “drastic” solution with her.
The couple conspired to kill Priya and called her to Gorakhpur under a false pretext.
