Aligarh cops ‘plant knives, phones’ on 2 men, shunted out
Agra: Two sub-inspectors (SI) and two constables are seen in a purported video planting knives and a mobile phone on two youths, who were arrested in Nov last year on the charges of phone snatching. The cops posted at Akrabad police station of Aligarh district have been shunted out and attached to the police lines.In the video widely circulated on social media on Sunday, these police personnel are allegedly seen placing the items in the trouser pockets of the two youths in their early 20s. Another police officer is seen clicking photographs and recording video.
Aligarh SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun later on Sunday attached the accused cops to the police lines and ordered a departmental inquiry.DSP (Chharra) Sanjeev Tomar said, "The video is two months old and was recorded in Panaithi police outpost area under Akrabad police station."Meanwhile, the accused youths' families alleged that police picked them up from their house though cops claimed they were arrested from a place under Panaithi outpost. Mamta Devi, mother of Kapil, said, "My son is innocent, he did nothing wrong.""The SP (Rural) has been directed to provide the probe report within 48 hours. Based on the investigation, necessary action will be taken," said a police officer.According to police records, "On Nov 11, 2025, a mobile phone snatching incident happened in an area under Akrabad police station. The owner filed a police complaint against unknown persons, following which a case under BNS Section 304-2 (crime of snatching) was registered against two unknown persons. Days later, police arrested Sonu and Kapil and added BNS section 317-2 (offence of dishonestly receiving or retaining stolen property, knowing or having reason to believe it is stolen) to the FIR."END
