3 jewellery robbers held after encounter in Agra
Agra: Three men were arrested after a police encounter in Agra's Jagdishpura area in the early hours of Monday in connection with a jewellery robbery worth around Rs 8 lakh. One of the accused sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire, police said.On March 17, the accused on a mobike snatched gold ornaments from a goldsmith while he was returning home from his shop in the Bichpuri area.Police teams from Jagdishpura police station scanned footage from over 100 CCTV cameras to identify the suspects.DCP (City) Sayed Ali Abbas said police intercepted three bike-borne suspects near Pathauli canal during a checking drive. "When asked to stop, the suspects tried to flee and opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing, one accused, Rohit Goswami, suffered a bullet injury in his left leg," he said.The two other accused — Ankit Bhagaur and Prince — were arrested. Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, live and empty cartridges, the motorcycle used in the crime, looted gold ornaments, mobile phones and other items.Police said the accused conducted a recce before carrying out the robbery.An FIR was registered at Jagdishpura police station under BNS sections 304(2) (snatching) and 317 (dishonestly receiving, retaining, or concealing stolen property), among others. After the encounter, a fresh FIR was filed against the accused under BNS Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) and the Arms Act for firing at the police.Further legal proceedings are underway.
