3 cops, including SHO, suspended in Agra in 2 separate cases
Agra: Three police officials, including the SHO of Shahganj Police Station in Agra, were suspended on Sunday in two separate cases, officials said.SHO Veeresh Pal Giri was suspended for negligence and disobeying orders issued by DCP (City) Sayed Ali Abbas. Police sources said Abbas had transferred constable Sunny Malik to police lines a few days ago following a complaint that he had illegally detained a JCB owner over pending finance instalments and extorted money from him. However, Giri did not relieve Malik, who continued to serve at the police station. The lapse surfaced on Saturday when Malik was assigned VIP duty from Shahganj Police Station. The SHO was suspended the next day.In a statement, Agra Police said, "In a strict disciplinary action under the zero-tolerance policy, the SHO of Shahganj Police Station, Veeresh Pal Giri, was suspended with immediate effect for disobeying the directions of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (City)."In a separate incident, two sub-inspectors were suspended for allegedly making a juvenile sit for hours at the Midakur police outpost under Kirawali police station after a scuffle between two minors on Feb 18.
On Feb 20, members of both families reached the outpost and agreed to a compromise. However, it later emerged that the 15-year-old boy had been made to remain seated at the outpost for several hours. An inquiry by ACP Achhnera, Shailendra Singh, found sub-inspectors Ishant Verma and Anurag guilty of detaining the juvenile. Acting on the findings, DCP (West) Aditya suspended both officers.Speaking to TOI, Aditya said, "According to the law, a juvenile should not be made to sit at the police outpost. Following an inquiry by the assistant commissioner of police (Achhnera), both sub-inspectors were suspended with immediate effect, and a detailed investigation of the case is being conducted."
