NEW DELHI: Public Works Department has planned to construct precast central verges and crash barriers along two major east Delhi corridors — a stretch near Karkari Mor and the road between the Ghazipur underpass and Anand Vihar ROB. These roads run alongside Vikas Marg and feed directly into the Anand Vihar transport hub.
The corridors carry a heavy mix of city buses, inter-state coaches, freight vehicles, and private traffic moving between east Delhi, central Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. During peak hours, even minor disruptions trigger long queues and spillovers onto feeder roads. The estimated cost of the two projects, which are scheduled for completion in 120 days, is over Rs 9 crore.

Central verges and crash barriers are intended to improve safety and traffic discipline. By limiting median crossings, sudden U-turns and lane weaving, the barriers can reduce the risk of collisions.
