WASHINGTON: US Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday named an independent special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden's son Hunter, amid allegations he engaged in illicit business deals overseas.

Garland appointed Delaware US Attorney David Weiss, the federal prosecutor who recently investigated Hunter Biden on tax and gun charges in a case that remains open.
