Trumpiana: The art of the weave!
Watched by a lotta OTUS, the Donald lower cases scotUS
Watched by a lotta OTUS, Donald Trump weaved and waffled for a record 107 minutes as he took a victory lap proclaiming that he has ushered in a “golden age of America” with a “turnaround for the ages.”
Amid slipping approval ratings, Trump’s State of the Union address unabashedly celebrated the economy, touting a stock market at “all-time highs” and “the strongest border in American history by far” thanks to his immigration crackdown.
Trump did little to acknowledge the economic pain and pessimism felt by many Americans, laying the blame for any problems at the “unpatriotic” and “crazy” Democrats’ door.
Slamming his predecessor Joe Biden “and his corrupt partners in Congress and beyond” for inflation and the “green new scam,” he accused them of backing “open borders for everyone.”
As nitpicking fact checkers questioned his tall claims, Trump capitalizing on the grand stage turned the SOTU into what the Washington Post dubbed “a game show from the dais, popping in surprise guests and passing out surprise medals.”
Sitting in the House gallery, a 100-year-old Korean War veteran was awarded a Medal of Honor by the First Lady while the goalie of the Olympian U.S. men’s ice hockey team was promised the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
For a second year in a row, Democrat lawmaker Al Green was ejected from the chamber after holding up a sign reading: “BLACK PEOPLE AREN’T APES,” recalling a Truth Social video that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as apes.
Trump later demanded Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib should be sent “back from where they came” after they “screamed uncontrollably” at him over the killing of two American citizens by ICE agents.
The two “Low IQ” lawmakers, “had the bulging, bloodshot eyes of crazy people, LUNATICS, mentally deranged and sick, who, frankly, look like they should be institutionalized,” he suggested.
But Trump deftly avoided a confrontation with the Supreme Court justices watching impassively in their black robes by not mentioning the ‘T’ word during the address after going ballistic over the court’s 6-3 judgement upending his key economic policy plank.
A day earlier, he claimed the “supreme court (will be using lower case letters for a while based on a complete lack of respect!) of the United States” had “accidentally and unwittingly” given him “far more powers and strength than I had prior to their ridiculous, dumb, and very internationally divisive ruling.”
“For one thing, I can use Licenses to do absolutely ‘terrible’ things to foreign countries, especially those countries that have been RIPPING US OFF for many decades,” he posted on Truth Social “Our incompetent supreme court did a great job for the wrong people, and for that they should be ashamed of themselves (but not the Great Three!)” — who dissented in his favor.
“As President, I do not have to go back to Congress to get approval of Tariffs,” Trump claimed in another post. “Any Country that wants to “play games’ with the ridiculous supreme court decision, especially those that have ‘Ripped Off’ the U.S.A. for years, and even decades, will be met with a much higher Tariff, and worse,” he warned as EU and some other countries considered putting their trade deals on pause.
But a federal judge in Washington did give Trump a cause to celebrate by declining to block the construction of “the most beautiful Ballroom anywhere in the World,” on the site of the historic East Wing he demolished.
Calling it “Great news for America, and our wonderful White House!” he posted a new rendering of this “magnificent building (is) being put up by Patriot Donors and Contributors.”
Meanwhile, rubble of the East Wing are being dumped since last October into a public park called East Potomac that Trump plans to turn into a luxury destination, according to a New York Times report.
Trump is also personally driving efforts to remake Washington’s Dulles International Airport with a changed lay-out, new terminals and doing away with its notorious shuttles, before putting his name on it, according to a Washington Post report.
Earlier, giving a hero’s welcome to the U.S. men’s hockey team during his State of the Union address, he touted their victory as proof that America under his leadership is “winning so much.”
The U.S. was “winning again, and in fact, we’re winning so much that we really don’t know what to do about it,” he said noting “ they beat a fantastic Canadian team in overtime, as everybody saw.”
“As did the American women, who will soon be coming to the White House,” said Trump even as his earlier comments that “I do believe I probably would be impeached,” if he didn’t invite the women’s team too, sparked controversy.
The captain of the team, which had declined Trump’s invitation citing scheduling issues, called his comments a “distasteful.” One of the men players also took issue with an AI-generated TikTok posted by the White House that made it sound like he was trash-talking Canadians.
“They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple-syrup-eating-f**ks a lesson,” Team USA’s Brady Tkachuk appears to say in the video. Distancing himself from the “obviously fake video,” Tkachuk told reporters that he did not condone it.
But unmindful of the controversy, Trump posted another AI-generated video of himself playing hockey in a suit and red tie, throwing one Canadian player down on the ice and beating up another.
Below the video was an old social media post from former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom Trump often referred to as “Governor,” which said, “You can’t take our country – and you can’t take our game.” — As always not letting a victory go unclaimed!
