Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that joint attacks with the U.S. on Iran were to "remove an existential threat." In a video address from Jerusalem, Netanyahu said, "Israel and the United States launched a joint campaign, Operation Lion's Roar. The objective of the operation is to put an end to the threat from the Ayatollah regime in Iran." Netanyahu accused Iran of "plotting to rebuild their nuclear and missile capabilities," adding that without imminent action, Iran would become "invulnerable." The prime minister also called on the Iranian people to "establish a new and free Iran." Iranian media reported strikes nationwide with the first happening near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
