Bangladesh continues to deny attack on minorities
Bangladesh interim government chief Muhammad Yunus
DHAKA: Continuing with its denial of reports of atrocities against minorities, particularly Hindus, the chief adviser Muhammad Yunus-led interim govt on Monday alleged that Indian media outlets and the ousted Awami League are “spreading disinformation” about Bangladesh ahead of its Feb 12 parliamentary election. “Misinformation is being spread deliberately,” chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam said at a conclave. While the govt is working towards a smooth democratic transition and fair elections, “a narrative is being created abroad suggesting that minorities would not be safe even if democracy is restored in Bangladesh”, Shafiqul said.

“For the first time in 18 months, we have observed Indian media circulating false narratives about Bangladesh. No govt in our history has faced such a situation. They spread lies every day, fuel hatred, and even Indian dailies and television channels are involved. This poses a serious threat to our govt,” he added.
