First demonstration is scheduled for October 21

The flight will imitate an ascent abort situation, releasing crew escape systems at 17 km altitude. The abort sequence will unfold, including parachute deployment, leading to the crew module safely landing in the sea near Sriharikota's coast. ​The first test vehicle abort mission or TV-D1 as part of Gaganyaaan between 7am and 9am on Saturday.

ISRO is all set for the Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission

The CM for TV-D1 has been designed to capture the flight data for evaluation of the performance of various systems. It will be recovered after touchdown in the Bay of Bengal, using a dedicated vessel and diving team from the Indian Navy.

The mission will simulate the abort condition during the ascent trajectory corresponding to a Mach number of 1.2 (1,482 kmph) expected to be encountered in the Gaganyaan mission. The CES with CM will be separated from the Test Vehicle at an altitude of about 17km.

The upcoming test flight will look at the efficacy of the crew capsule's emergency escape system.

Gaganyaan project envisages a demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of 3 members to an orbit of 400 km for a 3-day mission and bringing them back safely to earth, by landing in Indian sea waters.

​20 major tests, including 3 uncrewed missions of the HLVM3 are planned.

A test Crew Module (CM) similar to the one for crew members during space ascent will be launched unpressurized using a dedicated single-stage liquid rocket for simulating an abort. The actual CM will launch on a 143-foot-tall Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3) with solid, liquid, and cryogenic stages.
