5 Tamil romantic thrillers to binge on OTT

Romance is a timeless genre that has evolved over time to include more exciting elements. Even though there are many love stories that appeal to today's youth and patterns, romantic thrillers have established an area for themselves in Tamil cinema. Some of them have given us some unforgettable characters and have gone on to become cult classics. Here are five romantic thrillers in Tamil that are currently available on OTT.

​‘Ghajini’

With Suriya, Asin, and Nayanthara in the lead roles, Ghajini is a 2005 Tamil romantic thriller directed by AR Murugadoss. The movie follows an elegant and quiet businessman with short-term memory loss as he searches for the people who killed his lover. For Asin and Suriya, Ghajini ended up being a crucial movie in their careers. In the end, Asin and AR Murugadoss reprised their roles in a Hindi remake of the movie. Stream it on Sun NXT.

​‘Nesippaya’

Nesippaya is a romantic thriller in Tamil released in 2025. The film, which was directed by Vishnuvardhan, was Akash Murali's first and starred Aditi Shankar as the lead. It centers on a young couple that splits up because of a disagreement. It is the boy's responsibility to save the girl from the foreign country after she is caught in a crime while working in Portugal. The cast includes Kalki Koechlin, Sarathkumar, Prabhu, and Khushbu. ​‘Mynaa’

Set in Tamil Nadu's rural and hilly landscape, Mynaa is a 2010 romantic thriller that received high praise from critics. Prabhu Solomon is the film's director, and Vidharth and Amala Paul play the key parts. In the film Mynaa, a prisoner falls in love with his childhood sweetheart, Mynaa, and their relationship ends up in police custody. Amala Paul's achievement in Tamil cinema was made possible by Mynaa, which later became a commercial success. Stream it on Disney+ Hotstar.

​‘Manmadhan’

In the romantic psychological thriller Manmadhan, which was directed by AJ Murugan, Simbu plays two parts. The actor plays twin brothers, one of whom later turns out to be a serial killer who charms young women with his appeal. Supporting cast members include actors Jyothika, Goundamani, Sindhu Tolani, Atul Kulkarni, and Santhanam. The Kannada adaptation of Manmadhan, a huge hit, was called Madana. The movie went on to become a cult favorite, and a scene in Venkat Prabhu's Goa featured Simbu's character. Stream it on Sun NXT.

​‘Kaadhal Kondein’

In the 2003 romantic mystery Kaadhal Kondein, Dhanush plays an orphan who falls in love and gets hooked on his college classmate. The Selvaraghavan-directed movie helped Dhanush make a memorable debut in Tamil cinema. Even though his portrayal of Vinod received praise, the movie looked into themes like an abusive upbringing and the psychological effects of romance, friendship, and giving up. The female lead was Sonia Agarwal. Stream it on Sun NXT.
