'Raakh' trailer out: Ali Fazal leads dark 1970s Delhi investigation as 'evergreen beauty' Sonali Bendre makes powerful screen return
The makers of 'Raakh' have unveiled the trailer for their upcoming investigative crime drama featuring Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre and Aamir Bashir in prominent roles. The project presents a crime-based story that unfolds in Delhi during the late 1970s. The trailer introduces audiences to a tense and emotionally charged investigation. Ali Fazal plays Sub-Inspector Jayprakash in the series. His character finds himself handling a disturbing case involving missing children. The investigation slowly develops into something much more complicated. The trailer also highlights the emotional burden carried by victims and families affected by the incidents.

Series draws inspiration from a real-life case

'Raakh' is inspired by the Ranga-Billa case, one of the most discussed criminal incidents in Delhi's history. The real-life case involved Kuljeet Singh, known as Ranga, and Jasbir Singh, known as Billa. The two men were convicted in a case involving the assault and murder of two teenagers. The series appears to use the larger emotional and investigative themes surrounding the incident while presenting a fictional narrative structure. The trailer focuses heavily on tension and mystery.

'Raakh' creative team behind the project revealed

The upcoming series has been directed and executive produced by Prosit Roy. The project has been created, written and co-directed by Anusha Nandakumar and Sandeep Saket. Dialogues for the series have been written by Ayush Trivedi. Apart from the lead cast, several actors appear in important parts throughout the story. The cast includes Akash Makhija, Ramandeep Yadav, Divya Sharma, Vivaan Sharma, Anshul Chauhan, Rakesh Bedi and Dibyendu Bhattacharya.

Ranga-Billa story was explored earlier too

The Ranga-Billa case has also appeared in previous screen adaptations and crime narratives. Earlier, 'Black Warrant' dedicated an entire episode to the infamous incident and explored details linked to the case. 'Raakh' approaches the larger subject through a different format and setting. Rather than functioning as a direct retelling, the project appears to focus on emotional consequences and investigative elements. The trailer suggests that grief and morality will remain central themes throughout the story. The makers are expected to reveal more details closer to release.

Fans react strongly to the trailer online

Soon after the trailer was released, viewers began sharing reactions across social media platforms. Many comments focused on Sonali Bendre's appearance and Ali Fazal's return to an intense role. One user wrote, "Welcome Back Evergreen Beauty Sonali Bendre," another commented, "Ali fazal after long time," a fan also wrote, "What a delight to see Sonali Bendre on screen again!" Another reaction read, "Welcome Back Guddu Bhaiyya in your parallel universe".'Raakh' is scheduled to begin streaming on Prime Video on June 12.
