“I could hear gunshots over the phone”: Afghan national describes escape from Kabul

As news of the Taliban taking over Kabul reached residents, Najib Safi and his Indian wife made a bid to join the evacuation to India, along with 150 Indian nationals. Safi describes the harrowing process of evacuation as they waited to board the flight out of Kabul Airport amidst the chaos between US and Taliban forces. Even as Safi worries about his family back in Afghanistan, the couple is relieved they managed to safely reach India.
