On 29 July, the annual World Tiger Day will be celebrated. It was first observed at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia, back in 2010. Its purpose is to raise awareness about the conservation of our global tiger population and how governments should take part in protecting their natural habitats. India itself has lost 97 percent of its tiger population in the past century. As of 2006, the tiger population in India was down to 1,411 which urged the government and NGOs to come into full action. Following their efforts, it is expected that in the state survey of 2018 we would have a tally of above 3000 tigers in the nation itself.
