A growing LPG shortage is rattling India’s restaurant and hotel industry, triggering fears of kitchen shutdowns across several cities. Hospitality groups say commercial gas cylinder supplies have suddenly tightened due to disruptions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict. In response, the oil ministry has asked refineries to increase LPG production and has formed a high-level committee within oil marketing companies to review supply demands from restaurants, hotels and other industries. While the government maintains that fuel reserves remain adequate, opposition leaders have launched a sharp political attack. Priyanka Chaturvedi accused the government of misleading citizens about stock levels, while Manickam Tagore warned that India’s energy security could face serious stress due to global instability. Ram Gopal Yadav pointed to India’s heavy reliance on crude shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, saying disruptions there could have severe economic consequences.
