Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reacted sharply to former US President Donald Trump’s sensational claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi halted India’s strikes against Pakistan-based terror camps within five hours of Washington’s warning. Trump had said he threatened India with tariffs and trade restrictions to prevent a “nuclear war” with Pakistan. Rahul accused Modi of surrendering to foreign pressure, raising doubts about India’s sovereignty and decision-making in times of crisis. Trump, meanwhile, has repeated over 40 times that he “settled” the India-Pakistan conflict. But India maintains the ceasefire was reached bilaterally by military chiefs, with no US role. With Operation Sindoor and cross-border tensions still fresh in public memory, Rahul’s attack has reignited debate: did Modi act under US orders, or is Trump exaggerating his influence?
